NYSSA – The Burns softball team continued their match towards a district title with a 2-0 victory over the Nyssa Bulldogs on Tuesday, May 10 in Nyssa.
Gracie Mello and Merissa Medley recorded RBIs for the Hilanders as Burns put up one run in the second inning, adding an additional run in the sixth.
Sophomore Ayla Davies pitched the entire game for Burns, striking out 13 Nyssa batters and walking only four Bulldogs.
Lea Garner took the loss for Nyssa, picking up nine strikeouts and no walks.
“Burns is good, leading our league with a 12-0 record, has a solid pitcher in Sophomore Davies, and we played right with them tonight,” said Nyssa coach Tracy Cleaver. “It’s something I’ve said many times to my team, this team is not what their record says they are. It’s too bad we didn’t get it all firing sooner in the season and lost a couple of games to league opponents that we probably shouldn’t have. This team deserves to finish higher than they will, and I am very proud of them. Lea pitched well, defense was solid, a good game.”
Burns 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 – 2 3 0
Nyssa 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 – 0 2 1
