Hilander volleyball brings home hardware

FOREST GROVE – The Burns volleyball team won 6th place in the 3A volleyball tournament. In the opening round Creswell beat the Hilanders 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 25-16. Creswell ended up placing second.

In the consolation bracket Burns beat Horizon Christian 25-21, 13-25, 25-17, 25-18 and then lost to Sutherlin 25-17, 23-25, 25-16, 25-19.

Vale, the other EOL team to make the elite eight had a nice showing as well although they did not take home a trophy. Vale almost upset #5 ranked South Umpqua and had a match point in the fourth set when they were up 24-23 but ultimately lost in five 16-25, 25-18, 18-25, 26-24, 15-8. The Vikings would be put out of the tournament by Sutherlin the next morning 25-13, 14-25, 25-21, 25-22.

Tyanna Norton of Vale and Allie Hueckman and Burns, both juniors, received second team all-state honors.
