TACOMA – The senior leaders of the Hermiston track and field team led the Bulldogs as the state 3A meet came to a conclusion on Saturday, May 28 at Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma.

Senior Caden Hottman grabbed the top throw in the boys’ discus event with a heave of 169 feet, 3 inches. The state meet wrapped up a string of 11 first-place finishes this season for Hottman, but was not close to his best throw of 185-8. Hottman almost made the state meet a double event, finishing second in the shot put with a final measurement of 57-09.00, a personal best for Hottman’s career.

The Hermiston boys finished the meet in ninth place after a 22-point total. Walla Walla was crowned state champions with 66 points followed by Arlington and Yelm.

The Bulldog girls finished tied for tenth in the team results with four other teams. Hermiston scored 20 points as did Bellevue, Auburn Riverside, Meadowdale, and Liberty.

Senior Bailey Young finished her high school track and field career with a first-place state medal after a career best throw of 134-05. Prior to the state competition, her best throw for the season was 121-6.25 making Young’s state throw a full 13 feet eclipse of her final season.
