WALLA WALLA – The Bulldog runners of Hermiston opened the MCC season with a race in Walla Walla on Wednesday, Sept. 20.

Led by two top 10 finishes, the Hermiston girls finished second in the team standings, behind only Kamiakin in the points total. Led by junior Elizabeth Newman’s third-place finish, the Bulldog girls scored 71 points compared to Kamiakin’s 56-point total. Newman crossed the line in a time of 19 minutes, 49.91 seconds. Fellow junior Megan Joyce, with a time of 20:04.11, placed fifth and just outside the top 10, in 11th, was Lillian Fields, also a Bulldog junior.

Second place was also the spot for the Hermiston boys’ team as they too were only behind the team from Kamiakin.

The Bulldog boys had three top 10 placers led by senior John Mills time of 16:04.97, good enough for second place across the line. Just over three seconds behind and in third place was teammate and junior Jaysen Rodriguez and his time of 16:07.41. In a sign of the future for Hermiston running, freshman Gabriel Anderson placed ninth.
