Hermiston Swimming Wraps Up Season With Fifth Place At Districts

John L. Braese

RICHLAND – The Hermiston girls’ swim team saw their final meet of the year as the 3A District VI meet concluded two days of action on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Richland.

As day two came to a close, the Bulldogs finished with 122 points, fifth in the team standings. The team from Walla Walla grabbed the district title with a point total of 341.

For the upcoming state meet, only the champion of each event advances in 3A. The Bulldog saw no individual champions in the 3A races. Ironically, if Hermiston competed in the 4A ranks where the top two individuals advance to state, Grace Winebarger’s time in the 50-yard freestyle would have qualified the Bulldog as second place in the 4A ranks and a trip to state.

“It was a great meet for us and I am happy with the season,” said Hermiston coach Tammy Fisher. “We are a young team with great potential and are excited for what is coming.”
