Easternoregonsports.com has picked up so many new followers since our last track article, we need to explain a few things. Unlike other media outlets, we provide more than the top three or five finishes for events. We believe every student athlete putting the effort forth deserves recognition. The runner finishing 28th did not work less than the runner crossing the tape in first. You will find every finisher in this article representing eastern Oregon schools. Yes, it is more work and yes, the article is long. But easternoregonsports is pleased you will find your favorite athlete no matter their finish.
HERMISTON – The Hermiston track and field team hosted Kamiakin and Walla Walla on Wednesday, April 2 for the second Mid-Columbia Conference meet. The finishes of each team is are awarded points like other track events, but results are then tabulated in a head-to-head style.
The Hermiston boy fell to Walla Walla, 29.60-65.40 and also lost to Kamiakin, 33-66.
The Bulldog girls also fell to Walla Walla, 49-64 and were just edged out by Kamiakin, 56-57.
The Bulldog boys did witness some bright spots as senior Caden Hottman walked away with the shot put title after a throw of 51 feet, 10 inches. Hottman also won the discus event with a heave of 171-09.
Freshman Robert Akers outdid the rest of the field in the pole vault event, clearing 9 feet.
The winning in the shot put event also went to the girls’ side as senior Bailey Young won with a throw of 44-00.50. Like her counterpart, Young also won the discus after marking a distance of 115-04. Young completed her day with a third championship with a win in the javelin.
Senior Caitlin Anderholm won the pole vault with a height of 8-06.00 and freshman Madeline Jared picked up a first place showing in the triple jump with a distance of 32-01.25.
