OTHELLO, WASHINGTON – The state of Oregon was represented by teams from Hermiston, Ontario, and Vale as the Othello Lady Huskies Invite wrapped up action on Saturday, January 18.
Hermiston took the best team finish of the Oregon teams, placing ninth. Ontario finished the tournament in 22nd place and Vale made the trip home after placing 34th.
For Hermiston, Amree Braithwaite placed fourth in the 140-pound weight class, falling in the battle for third place to Hanford’s Hailey Say by pin. Also placing fourth was Herimston’s Halle Thomas at 145 pounds. Thomas lost in the third place match to Sunnyside’s Cheyann Rendon.
At 190 pounds, Hermiston’s Jamin Deike finished in the seventh spot, pinning Wenatchee’s Aurora Carranza in her final match of the day.
A fourth place finish also went to Hermiston’s Macy Morgan. Wrestling at 235 pounds, Morgan dropped the third place match to River View’s Kira Yount by pin at the 2 minute, 1 second mark of the match.
The Ontario Tigers found the majority of the team’s points coming in the final match of the 235-pound classification. The final match of the class found two Tigers on the mat battling for the first place medal. At the 4:27 mark, Abigail Osei pinned teammate Aiyana Luna for an Ontario one-two finish.
For the Vale Vikings, Tyler Richardson returned home with a fifth place finish in the 135-pound class. Richardson took a 4-0 decision over Hanford’s Mirina Enderlin in the fifth place match.
