BIG RIVER GOLF COURSE – The Hermiston cross country dominated both the boys and girls divisions, winning the team titles during the running of the Runner Soul XC Fest on Friday, Sept. 10 held at the Big River Golf Course.
The Lady Bulldogs grabbed eight of the top ten placements on their way to a team total 15 points. Southridge placed second with 59 points and The Dalles was third, putting 76 points on the board.
Hermiston was led by sophomore Megan Joyce, crossing the finish line ahead of the rest of the field with a time of 20 minutes, 17.30 seconds. Senior Alexia Serna, posting a time of 20:51.90, was second and junior Ashley Treatwell was third posting a time of 21:04.40.
The top finish for the Heppner Mustangs was senior Hailey Heideman and her ninth- place finish. Weston-McEwen sophomore Evalena Lieuallen, in 20th, was the top TigerScot and in 32nd, junior Dacceli Gonzalez was the top runner for the Umatilla Vikings.
The Hermiston boys also took a team title, downing second-place The Dalles and third-place Heppner. The Bulldogs scored 30 points while The Dalles ended the day with 47 points. The Mustangs of Heppner scored 63 points.
A side note to the team scoring was the second-place finish by Weston-McEwen junior Alex McIntyre. The TigerScot crossed the line in a time of 17:03.90. Heppner junior Trevor Nichols was third with a time of 17:13.70.
The team champion Bulldogs were led by a fifth-place finish by senior Logan Springstead and his time of 17:34.80.
Umatilla’s top finish went to senior Quinn Funderburk in 35th.
