BIG RIVER GOLF COURSE – The Hermiston cross country squad took both team titles and individual first-place finishes at the running of the Runner Soul Fest on Friday, Sept. 9 on the Big River Golf Course. The race attracted teams from both Oregon and Washington.

The Lady Bulldogs took the team title, beating our second place Heppner by 51 points. Weston-McEwen finished the meet in seventh.

The Hermiston girls were led by an individual championship by junior Jaquelin Garcia Sandoval with a winning time of 21 minutes, 28.18 seconds. Heppner freshman Lily Nichols placed third, running the 5,000 meters in 21:39.97.

The bus ride home was also happy for the Hermiston boys as the Bulldogs took the team title to keep up with the girls. Hermiston posted 27 points to win the meet while Heppner placed fourth. Nixyaawii Community School finished in seventh followed closely by Umatilla and McLoughlin.

The Bulldog boys also had an individual champion as sophomore Jaysen Rodriguez picked up first place with a time of 16:25.14. Weston-McEwen senior Alex McIntyre was four seconds back in second place and Heppner senior Trevor Nichols finished third, running just over 17 minutes.
