HERMISTON – The Bulldog cross country team played host to both Oregon and Washington teams as the Runner Soul Fest took place at the Sandstone Middle School in Hermiston on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The Hermiston boys, led by senior Jaysen Rodriguez’s second place showing, finished second in the team scoring behind only Kamiakin. Rodriguez was also just one spot behind a Kamiakin runner with the Bulldog crossing the line in 16 minutes, 5.59 seconds.
Umatilla broke through the Washington schools with a 13th place showing.
For the girls, host Hermiston placed fifth in the team scores followed by Heppner in sixth. Heppner junior Lily Nichols showed her best finish of the young season, placing third with a time of 20:44.36. For the host Bulldogs, junior Maggie Meenderinck cracked the top 10 runners, crossing the line in ninth with a time of 21:34.69.
