HANFORD, WA – The Hermiston cross country team is off to a good start after both the girls and boys took the team titles at the Hanford Jamboree, a two-mile course, on Friday, Sept. 2.
The Bulldog girls were led by race winner, junior Jaquelin Garica Sandoval. Garcia Sandoval led the field of seven schools, crossing the tape in a time of 13 minutes, 23.22 seconds.
The Hermiston girls finished the day with 39 points, 19 points better than second-place Moses Lake’s 58 points. The Pendleton Buckaroos placed seventh in the team scoring.
Pendleton’s top finisher was sophomore Madline Franke in 33rd.
The Hermiston boys mirrored the girls, taking both the team title and having the race winner. Putting up 41 points, the Buckaroos boys were 20 points better than second-place Kamiakin.
Bulldog sophomore Jaysen Rodriguez outdid the rest of the field, pushing across the finish with a time of 10:26.17. Pendleton’s top finisher was freshman Jack Reynolds in 35th and a time of 12:13. 87.
Easternoregonsports.com is again standing out from other media sources by listing all the runners from eastern Oregon schools in the cross-country competitions. First or 41st, all these runners made it to the finish line. There is only a single runner with the best time, but there are many more stories worth mentioning afterwards.
