Heppner girls run away at Riverside Runoff

RIVERSIDE – The Heppner girls cross country team numbered the largest team and also the first-place team as the Riverside Runoff took place Thursday, March 25 in Riverside.

The Mustang girls were the lone team qualifying for a team score with 15 points. In addition to taking the bus home with the team score, Heppner senior Madelyn Nichols also picked up the individual win with a time of 23 minutes, 6.8 seconds. Condon junior Kallyn Wilkins placed second and Heppner junior finished out the top three with a third place finish and a time of 25:14.3.

The Mustang boys could not match their female counterparts, coming up one point short to the team from Bickleton. Heppner scored 28 points compared to Bickleton’s 27.

Heppner sophomore Trevor Nichols continued his winning season, taking first place in a time of 18:43.0. Hermiston sophomore placed third, crossing the line in 19:32.4.
