Heppner continues unbeaten

HEPPNER – The Mustang football team continues as the lone 2A squad yet to taste defeat as Heppner downed the Warrenton Warriors, 32-7 in playoff action on Saturday.

Both teams remained scoreless during the first quarter of play and Heppner led 6-0 at the half with the only points on the board. The Mustangs found the end zone twice in the third and the Warriors hit the scoreboard also in the third quarter. Heppner closed out the game with two scores in the final eight minutes.

Heppner again used a punishing ground game in the victory. Mason Lehman led the charge with 110 yards on 10 carries and one score. Blake Wolters had two scores on his 96 yards on 15 touches of the ball. Quarterback Jayden Wilson kept the ball six times for 57 yards and one touchdown.

Holding Warrenton to only seven points, the Heppner defense was led by Matt Orem’s 11 tackles. Lehman and Wolters, playing on both sides of the ball, had eight tackles each. Jason Rae ended his game with nine tackles.

The Mustang defense held Warrenton to 233 yards of offense.

Lehman also assisted in the win with a 69-yard kick return.

Heppner now takes on seventh ranked Knappa on Saturday, November 23 at Hillsboro Stadium at 2:15pm. Knappa upset second ranked Coquille, 36-30 to qualify for the semifinals versus the Mustangs. Â
