Heppner blanks Irrigon

IRRIGON – In the battle of 2A versus 3A, the Heppner Mustangs held the Irrigon Knights scoreless and cruised to a 50-0 victory Friday in Irrigon.

The Mustangs put up 38 points in the first quarter and added the remaining 12 points in the second quarter while holding the Knights out of the end zone in a non-league matchup.

Heppner quarterback Jayden Wilson was 3-for-4 passing for 100 yards and two scores. He also had a 39 yard scamper for an additional touchdown. Brock Hisler led the ground game, carrying four times for 113 yards. The Mustangs had 304 total rushing yards.

Holding the Knights scoreless, Heppner was led by Blake Wolters and his seven tackles. Hisler added five tackles and Jace Coe and Gavin Hanna-Robinson each added four tackles. Matt Orem also had four tackles.

For Irrigon, quarterback Ryan Hussey was 2-for-16 for minus yards. The running game also could not get going as Frank Chapa had 18 carries for 43 yards to lead Irrigon.

Heppner (6-0 overall, 1-0 Blue Mountain Conference) goes back to league action on Friday with a trip to Weston-McEwen (3-2 overall, 1-1 league). Irrigon (0-6 overall, 0-1 Eastern Oregon League) is home on Friday with a league matchup against Vale (3-3 overall, 1-0 league).
