HARPER – The Harper girls’ basketball team took to their home court on Friday, Jan. 24 without a High Desert League victory to show. As the clock hit zero, that fact would change as the Hornets took a 51-42 win over the visiting Panthers.
The key to Harper’s first league win came in the first quarter, an eight minutes that saw the Hornets put 21 points on the board compared to 15 points for Prairie City/Burnt River. Both squads lost all the first quarter momentum as a point proved to be hard to find. At the half, the Hornets led 24-19.
The problem in finding the basket continued for the Panthers in the third quarter as the team only added six points to their total. The Hornets once again found their groove somewhat, adding 12 points.
Prairie City/Burnt River’s 19 point final quarter proved to be too late as Harper claimed the win.
Lindsay Talbot scored 30 points in the Harper win to lead all scorers. Holly Rodriguez added 11 points.
The Panthers saw balanced scoring with eight players finding points led by Savannah Watterson’s nine points. Gracey Kenyon finished her night with eight points.
