Easternoregonsports.com has picked up so many new followers since last track season we need to explain a few things. Unlike other media outlets, we provide more than the top three or five finishes for events. We believe every student athlete putting the effort forth deserves recognition. The runner finishing 28th did not work less than the runner crossing the tape in first. You will find every finisher in this article representing eastern Oregon schools. Yes, it is more work and yes, the article is long. But easternoregonsports is pleased you will find your favorite athlete no matter their finish.

GRANT UNION – When you play host to a track and field meet, you end up with all the work associated with hosting teams and keeping things running. You also end up running before the home crowd. With friends and family present, Grant Union not only did all the work, but also kept the home fans happy, winning both the boys and girls team titles at the Grant Union Small Schools Meet.

The Prospector girls had to fight off a Crane team with Grant Union winning by only two points, 142 to 140. The Hilander girls of Burns took the third spot with Heppner and Elgin wrapping up the top five spots.

Multiple winners abounded for the day as Crane junior Taylor Joyce won both the 100 and 200-meter races. Heppner senior Hannah Finch picked up victories in the 400 and 800-meter contests. Crane sophomore Kortney Dorman doubled up in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. To add to their day, both Joyce and Doman added to their days with wins in the field events as Doman won the high jump and Joyce outdid the rest of the field in the pole vault.

The competition among the boys was not as close as Grant Union ran away from the rest of the field, compiling 127 points compared to Heppner’s 99 points. Burns placed third and the race for fourth came down to three teams. Prairie City grabbed fourth with 65 points, but both Powder Valley and Pine Eagle scored 64.5 points to tie for fifth.

Grant Union was led by senior Luke Jackson, a winner in the 200 meters and a second-place finish in the 100 meters. Prairie City junior Eli Wright was a multiple winner, taking first in both the high jump and javelin events.
