Coaches state they never look ahead, but concentrate only on the next game. That being said, easternoregonsports.com can look ahead and categorically state the Baker girls’ basketball team next season appears scary good.
Four members of the Bulldog team, all juniors and returning next season, recently received honors as the Greater Oregon League coaches named the all-league team.
Baker, the GOL season champions, saw a father/daughter duo at the top the listing as Jozie Ramos was named player of the year and Jason Ramos was named coach of the year for the league. Rounding out the list for Baker, Rylee Elms picked up first team honors as did Macey Moore. Brooklyn Jaca was named to the second team.
La Grande saw three players picking up the votes to make the list. MaKenna Shorts, a junior and Grace Neer, a senior, were named to the first team. The future of Tiger basketball, freshman Kayle Collman, was named to the second team.
In their final year in the GOL, McLoughlin named three players to the listing led by senior Grace Neer on the first team. Appearing on the second team for the Pioneers were senior Darby Rhoads and sophomore Madi Perkins.
The Ontario Tigers saw a single player on the list. Sophomore Kira Evans was named to the second team. Evans and the Tigers are scheduled to remain in the GOL next season and again hit the courts against Baker, La Grande and newcomer Pendleton.
