ONTARIO – Cross country fans of the 4A Greater Oregon League will soon have the opportunity to see not only the top runners in the district, but also the top time in the state as the girls take to the course at the 4A Greater Oregon League  meet on Friday, Oct. 28 on the campus of Treasure Valley Community College. The girls are scheduled to leave the start line at 1 p.m.

Those in attendance will not only see the fastest runner in the district, but also the quickest 4A time in the state. La Grande junior Emily Tubbs enters the district run with the fastest time in the state, clocking a time of 19 minutes, 9.6 seconds. Here is the scary part for her competitors-in the district meet in 2021, Tubbs ran the quickest time of her career, a 18:44.4 race. In fact, Tubbs ran under 19 minutes twice last year.

Tubbs and sophomore Cecliia Villagomez are looking to lead the Tigers to a district title on Friday. Standing in La Grande’s way will be Baker led by sophomore Sofia Kaaen and a Bulldog freshman, Gwen Rasmussen.

Looking at the top 10 fastest times for the season, La Grande and Baker are split at five each. The district crown may come down to the runners able to pass the test in chilly conditions. The forecast for Friday calls for the temperatures in the low 50s at race time.

1. Emily Tubbs (La Grande), 19:09.6.

2. Cecilia Villagomez (La Grande), 19:32.4.

3. Sofia Kaaen (Baker), 20:12.8.
