BEND – Former Crane football and girls’ basketball coach Roy “Stub” Travis pled guilty to four felonies and a misdemeanor during a court settlement hearing on Monday, June 9 in Deschutes County Circuit Court.
Originally charged with 23 crimes, including 21 felony counts of sexual abuse, Travis pled guilty to four counts of Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree, all felonies and one misdemeanor county of Furnishing Alcohol to Person under 21.
The original charges spanned three counties during 2022. Deschutes County handed down a grand jury indictment on April 29, 2024, accusing Travis of inappropriately touching one of the female basketball players he coached on at least six occasions between June 2022 and December 2022. The player was under 18 years of age. The incidents took place during basketball trips in Deschutes, Harney and Umatilla counties. Travis stepped down as the girls’ basketball coach in 2023 after coaching the Lady Mustangs for a total of 28 years. He also coached Crane football for 30 years.
Travis will face sentencing in Deschutes County Circuit Court on July 22. He remains out of custody on bond with a protective order barring contact with the victim remaining in place.
