The Oregon School Activities Association’s Football Ad Hoc Committee met Wednesday, Jan. 8 for the third meeting of the school year. After reviewing correspondence and hearing testimony, the committee released the following recommendations:
State Football Bracket
- 6-man football will continue with a 12-team bracket. Special District 1 (eastern Oregon teams) would see the current five automatic qualifiers drop down to three automatic qualifiers. The committee is recommending five at-large spots from across the state.
- 8-man football will also continue with a 12-team bracket. Special District 2 would continue with three automatic qualifiers while Special District 3 would lose on automatic qualifying team, dropping down to two teams making the bracket. The committee is recommending four at-large spots from across the state.
- 2A football will continue with a 16-team bracket. Special Districts 5 and 6 will continue to receive two automatic qualifiers.
- 3A football will also continue with a 16-team bracket with no changes to automatic qualifiers.
- 4A football will also stay with a 16-team bracket with no changes to automatic qualifiers.
The recommendations for districts are as follows:
- 4A Special District 5: Baker, La Grande, Ontario, Pendleton/Nixyaawii, The Dalles
- 3A Special District 5: Cascade Christian, Klamath Union, Lakeview, North Valley, Phoenix
- 3A Special District 6: Burns, McLoughlin, Nyssa, Umatilla, Vale, Weston-McEwen
- 2A Special District 5: Bonanza, Culver, Illinois Valley, Lost River, Rogue River, St. Mary’s
- 2A Special District 6: Enterprise, Grant Union, Heppner, Irrigon, Riverside, Sherman/Condon, Stanfield
- 1A 8-Man Special District 2: Adrian, Cove, Crane, Elgin, Imbler, Pine Eagle, Powder Valley, Prairie City/Burnt River, Union
- 1A 8-Man Special District 3: Dufur, Echo, Perrydale, Country Christian, Pilot Rock/Ukiah, Lyle/Wishram/Klickitat/Glenwood
- 1A 6-Man Special District 1: Dayville/Monument, Harper, Huntington, Ione/Arlington, Jordan Valley, Joseph, South Wasco County, Spray/Mitchell/Wheeler, Wallowa
The committee will hold a final meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Recommendations from this meeting will be forwarded to the OSAA Executive Board for final approval on Feb. 3. The committee is accepting comment on the proposals via email at [email protected].
