CATHERINE CREEK – The word “iconic” is used frequently, but for the past 45 years, the Catherine Creek Scamper is the date on the calendar circled for a majority of cross country teams in eastern Oregon. Speaking with cross country runners, they all want to talk about the “mud hole.”
The popularity of the race translates to two flights in the varsity race on both the boys’ and girls’ sides. For the boys, Union’s Eli Williams was able to cross the line with the best time of the day, 17 minutes, 35.5 seconds. For the girls, La Grande’s Emily Tubbs posted the quickest time of 21:48.6.
