PENDLETON – A large number of teams that rarely or never saw each other during the regular season gathered in Pendleton on Friday, Oct. 28 for the running of the 3A/2A/1A Special District 3 cross country championships.
Unlike the boys’ district races, the girls are lumped together in one race. The OSAA splits the 3A boys separate from the 2A/1A boys’ race.
The Outlaw girls of Enterprise departed Pendleton with the district title, holding off second-place Union and third-place Burns. All three teams qualified for the upcoming state cross country meet.
The top five runners completed the course in under 20 minutes including race winner Sydney White, a Burns freshman running in her first district meet and winning in a time of 19 minutes, 16.6 seconds. White was joined by La Pine senior Ashley Jentzsch, Heppner freshman Lily Nichols, Sisters freshman Brooke Duey and Sisters junior Ella Bartlett all crossing the tape in under 20 minutes.
