Enterprise Boys Win Again At Mustang Invite

HEPPNER – The Enterprise boys cross country team just don’t care. Meeting a larger Oregon team, Outlaws win. Meeting smaller Oregon schools, Outlaws win. Meeting larger Washington schools, Outlaws win. Meeting a smaller Washington school, Outlaws win.

Putting up 30 points, the Enterprise boys ran away with the team title at the Mustang Invite on Thursday, Oct. 7 in Heppner. Second place went to the Dalles with 78 points followed by Pasco with 79. One of the newest members of the Oregon league, Bickleton, picked up sixth place.

Outlaw senior Zac Knapp upped his first-place streak to five straight races, winning at the Invite with a time of 15 minutes, 38.9 seconds. Three additional Enterprise runners placed in the top ten with senior Bayden Menton placing fourth, senior Levi Ortswan finishing sixth and senior Ian Goodrich grabbing tenth.

Running one spot behind Knapp was Pine Eagle senior Caleb Brown in second place with a time of 16:06.8, Brown’s season best time.

Bickleton showed up in the 11th spot as junior Luke Binfet came in under 18 minutes with a time of 17:51.2. Also under 18 minutes was Condon sophomore Grady Greenwood in 12th and a time of 17:53.9.

For the host Heppner team, senior Joseph Sherman placed 17th as the top Mustang finish. Grant Union junior Brady Dole placed 23rd and Stanfield/Echo junior Jagjot Singh was 24th for their teams’ best places.

For the Golden Eagles, junior Saint Schimmel finished 46th for Nixyaawii’s best finish while Umatilla’s best finish went to senior Quinn Funderburk in 52nd.

The host Heppner Mustangs placed third in the team standings for the girls as the best finish for eastern Oregon schools. The Dalles placed first with Pasco finishing second. Enterprise was fourth.

The top finish among eastern Oregon schools went to Condon senior Kallyn Wilkins in fourth place and a time of 21:12.7. Heppner senior Hailey Heideman was one spot back in fifth with a time of 21:23.5.

Enterprise sophomore Iona McDonald was 12th and led a group of Outlaw runners finishing in the teens. In 17th, Grant Union freshman Maddie Bailey barely outdid teammate Aliciana Archibald in 18th.

Nixyaawii senior Keyen Singer placed 26th and Stanfield/Echo’s best finish came from freshman Ezra Schneider in 31st. Umatilla junior Andrea Encisc placed 34th and Riverside also had a freshman with the Pirates’ best finish as Aunkia Parlow placed 38th. For Bickleton, freshman Grace Binfet locked down the 45th slot.
