Dufur’s Farrell, La Grande’s Reed named as top running backs in Oregon

Oregonlive recently compiled a list of some of the top running backs in Oregon this year and a few from eastern Oregon made the list.

The list was compiled by Rene Ferran and published here.

Asa Farrell, Dufur

5-11, 190, Sr.

Last season, Farrell rushed for 998 yards and 11 touchdowns and caught 17 passes for 458 yards and eight scores and earned Class 1A state offensive player of the year honors as the Rangers won a fourth consecutive state title. He returned two punts for touchdowns.

Nathan Reed, La Grande

5-9, 190, Sr.

Reed was a second-team Class 4A all-state selection at running back and linebacker as a junior, rushing for 1,285 yards and 10 touchdowns and making 148 tackles. He is a three-time medalist in the hurdles at the state track championships. “Nathan is one of the nicest kids in the state, and his ability is unmatched,” said Tigers coach Rich McIlmoil. “He will be a dominant running back this year and a positive team leader, one who our younger players can look to as a positive role model.”
