After a meeting of the 1A High Desert League volleyball coaches, the league champion Crane Mustangs picked up both player of the year and coach of the year awards as well naming six players to the all-league squad.
Junior Kortney Doman will return to the volleyball court next season as the reigning Play of the Year after the votes were tallied. She joins her coach Maddye Wester, voted Coach of the Year by her peers.
The first team list consists of four seniors (Crane’s Taylor Joyce and Leslie Doman, Prairie City’s Laken McKay and Jordan Valley’s Jill Gammett), two juniors (Kortney Doman and Adrian’s Pressley Speelmon) and a lone sophomore (Adrian’s Addy Martin).
Three seniors (Prairie City’s Betty Ann Wilson, Huntington’s Tylie Garfield, Crane’s Kaylee Starbuck) were named to the second team along with two Adrian juniors (Lucy Martin and Rylee Ready). The team was completed with two Panther sophomores (Prairie City’s Skylar McKay and Reece Jacobs).
The listing for honorable mention runs the gamut. One senior (Crane’s Lindsay Hill) joins five juniors (Prairie City’s Jaycee Winegar, Crane’s Josie Taylor, Adrian’s Delanie Sheets, Jordan Valley’s Shailee Rutan, Huntington’s Colleen Carlsen). Added to the list is four sophomores (Jordan Valley’s Meg Eiguren, Dayville/Monument’s Bethany Willburn, Adrian’s Madi Helmick, Dayville/Monument’s Jin Bo Ciochetti). The listing is founded out with two freshman (Jordan Valley’s Jalee Maestrejuan, Crane’s Ava Bowen).
