VALE – When Bo DeForest left his coaching duties in La Pine and moved to Vale for new endeavors, returning to the field was not in his plans. As many of us know, plans change and DeForest was recently approved by the Vale School Board as the new Viking baseball coach.

“I was watching my eldest son coach legion ball and it just sparked the interest to return to coaching,” said DeForest.

DeForest coached both football and baseball for the Hawks and was actually on the field as La Pine played Vale in playoff action on two occasions.

La Pine played Vale in the playoffs in 2018 and 2019 and I came over to scout the Vikings at an Irrigon game,” he recalled.

The new coach said the upcoming season is similar to what he has seen before.

“My first year in La Pine was a team made up of mostly younger players,” he said. “We will have a great group of younger players here but mixed with some older, talented players.”

DeForest takes the reins of a team that finished with a 6-19 overall record including a 4-8 3A Special District 3 showing, fifth in the league standings.
