BAKER – As teams from across the state took to the courts in different cities, only two teams started semifinal play led by a drum circle.
Prior to the start of the Damascus Christian and Nixyaawii game, a group of drummers welcomed both teams with a hard driving beat and chanting. However, the drumming could not help Nixyaawii down Damascus Christian as the Eagles downed the Golden Eagles 61-53.

Nixyaawii scored first as Tyasin Burns converted on 1 of 2 free throws with just 14 seconds off the game clock. Damascus Christian waited almost a full minute before finding the basket as Micah Colburn buried a short jumper before going on a 9-3 run, stopped only by a timeout by Nixyaawii. Regrouping after the break, the Golden Eagles pulled to within a single point as the quarter ended with Damascus Christian leading 14-13.
The Eagles led the Golden Eagles 28-25 at the half as Damascus Christian shot 7-for-10 from the 3-point arc.
The third quarter proved to be the turning point of the game as the Eagles outscored Nixwaayii 18 to 11, building a 46-34 margin going into the final eight minutes.
In the end, the hot outside shooting of Damascus Christian was too much for the Golden Eagles and the Eagles cruised to the win.
Damascus Christian was led by Jacob Zakharyuk and his 32 points including going 5-for-9 on the long range shots beyond the arc. Micah Colburn added 13 points.
Nixwaayii saw 24 points come from Mick Schimmel who also added five rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles. Burns ended his night with 12 points.
