HALFWAY – The Mustangs of Crane were crowned the 1A State team champions after action wrapped up in Halfway on Saturday, January 25.
Crane made their way past the host Pine Eagle team, 199-142. Elgin placed third with 107 points while North Lake, with an 86 total, was fourth. Joseph placed fifth, just 2.5 points ahead of sixth-place Adrian. Wallowa and Imbler wrapped up the team scoring.
One of the premier matches of the tournament occurred at the 113 class as Pine Eagle sophomore Coy Butner handed Imbler sophomore Garrett Burns only his second loss of the year. Butner also has only two losses for the season and downed Burns in a 5-0 decision in the championship match.
At 120 pounds, Pine Eagle’s Chase Butner remains with only a single loss for the year after taking a 9-0 major decision over Crane’s John Otley.
Pine Eagle continues to dominate the lower weight classes as junior Cutter Tanaka grabbed the title at 126 pounds and now stands at 28-1 for the season.
