The members of the Wallowa volleyball team will soon have some new décor for their homes. The Cougars achieved a 3.99 grade point average, tops in the volleyball season for teams across the state. For their work, the Oregon School Activities Association will issue each team member a commemorative decal and a certificate and the school will pick up a plaque.
Wallowa is not the lone eastern Oregon team to achieve both in the classroom and on the court. Crane finished fourth in the 1A standings with a GPA of 3.85 and with a 3.81, the Badgers of Powder Valley finished seventh. Elgin was just outside the top 10 at 11th and Prairie City/Burnt River was 18th. The conference champions of Ione/Arlington also were a top team in the classroom, picking up 21st among 1A teams.
The 2A ranks saw Grant Union place 11th with a GPA of 3.63 among the state’s 2A teams.
Eastern Oregon was also represented in the 3A teams with Vale leading the way at sixth followed by Nyssa at eighth due to a tie at sixth with Horizon Christian, Tualatin and Vale with identical 3.75 GPAs. EOL champion Burns came in at 18th and La Pine picked up 25th among the state’s 3A teams.
Three Greater Oregon League teams also made the listing led by Baker, second to only Cottage Grove when it comes to classroom work. Pendleton finished eighth in the standings with La Grande rounding out the top ten.
