VALE – The emerging wrestling program at Treasure Valley Community College received a big boost. Vale’s Ava Collins, a two-time state champion, has chosen to wrestle for the Chukars.

“I just wanted to stay close to home and TVCC offered that opportunity,” said Collins, ranked ninth nationally in a recent high school poll. “I am excited the way the program is going at TVCC and the coaching staff is great.”

Collins joins the program after taking a state title twice at Vale High School. Relatively new to the sport, Collins is excited to see how far she can go.

“My English teacher, Kimberly Worley, encouraged me to try out wrestling my sophomore year,” explained Collins. “It just took off from there.”

While attending classes and time on the mat, Collins will also participate in the Chukar rodeo program.

“I think it is great Ava is a dual sport athlete while at TVCC,” said Chukar wrestling coach Luis Cisneros. “I would love to see rodeo fans become wrestling fans.”

Cisneros has big plans for the Viking turned Chukar.

“The amount of potential Ava has is unlimited,” Cisneros said. “I want to see her on the world team, representing her country. With her talent and drive, Ava could very well be on the world stage. I also love the fact we are keeping local talent like Ava close to home.”

Cisneros has been busy grabbing state talent including Irrigon’s Stephanie Romero and Crook County’s Norman Reynolds.
