ELLENSBURG, WA. – Led by a first-place finish by Hermiston senior Sam Cadenas and backed by a second-place finish by senior Jesse Vassey, the Hermiston boys wrestling squad placed seventh in the team standings as action wrapped up at the Ray Westburg Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 15 in Ellensburg.
The Bulldog boys finished the Invitational with 144 points. Selah, with 217.5 points, was crowned the team title winner.
Cadenas took home the medal in the 285-pound division after pinning Selah’s Michael Ray at the 1 minute, 42 second mark of the match. Cadenas now stands at 20-3 for the season.
Vassey, wrestling at 220 pounds, fell in the championship match by a 6-5 decision to Eisenhower’s Damien Gama to take the runner-up position.
