ONTARIO – The Burns girls’ cross country team returned home the team title holders by the slimmest of margins after squads from both Idaho and Oregon competed at the Crosby Invitational on the campus of Treasure Valley Community College on Thursday, Oct. 5.
The Hilander girls ended with 38 points, one better than Baker’s 39 points. Vale placed third in the team scoring with 59 points for the day.
Three runners finished the course in under 22 minutes led by race champion, Baker junior Sogia Kaaen and a winning time of 21 minutes, 32.67 seconds. Second place went to Vale sophomore Addie Saunders with a time of 21:37.12 and Burns sophomore Addie Robbins clocked a time of 21:57.39.
The scoring was not as close in the boys’ race with Baker taking the team title with 49 points. Burns, with 56 points, finished second with Vale in fourth followed by Nyssa in fifth and host Ontario in sixth.
The lone runner to break 17 minutes for the race went to Vale senior Trevor Stewart and his time of 16:49.04.
Two runners crossed the line in under 18 minutes led by Baker junior Daniel Brown in second place and a time of 17:29.20 and third place Burns junior Tanner Joyce with a time of 17:52.21.
