NYSSA – Over 750 middle school and high school cross country runners were in Nyssa on Wednesday, Sept. 11 for the Nyssa Invite. This is the largest contingency of racers in the event’s history.

For the boys, the host Bulldogs finished second in the team standings with only Weiser, Idaho scoring fewer points. Nyssa was led by junior Diego Trinidad and his seventh place showing with a time of 18 minutes, 11.36 seconds.

Vale had the top local finish as sophomore Duncan Fritts posted a personal best time of 17:24.72 and second place over the 5,000 meters. Burns also managed a top 10 individual placement as senior Tanner Joyce finished eighth among the runners with a time of 18:21.79.

Ontario saw senior Jack Hally place 12th as the top Tiger and for Four Rivers, sophomore Oliver McDowall crossed the line in 13th.

Boise-based Bishop Kelly was the top team among the girls with Burns placing second in the team scores. Host Nyssa finished sixth followed in seventh by Vale.

Two eastern Oregon runners claimed top 10 individual finishes led by Vale junior Addie Saunders’ time of 21:43.41, third in the race. Burns junior Addie Robbins claimed sixth with a time of 22:48.27.

For Nyssa, Isabella Arreola was the top Bulldog, taking 17th while the sole runner for Four Rivers, sophomore Maritza Benitez finished 68th.
