BURNS – The #3 ranked Burns Hilanders (9-0, 4-0) put their unbeaten record on the line as the opened their 2019 playoff campaign by hosting the Scio Loggers. In the end they were too much for the Loggers coming away with a 35-8 win.
The game was close early on with Scio leading after the first quarter 8-0 on a Lance VanHoose 24-yard run and successful two point conversion. After that however, it was all Burns.
Jayden Tiller led the Hilanders on offense rushing for 130 yards on 12 attempts finding the endzone twice. Tiller was recently named as the EOL offensive player of the year.
Dakota Ceja added 63 yards on 11 carries. Ceja also had one 14 yard catch for a touchdown.
Scio who typically runs their wing T offense was held to a total of 179 yards rushing.
The Hilanders now move on the second round of the playoffs where they will host the #6 ranked Clatskanie Tigers (8-2, 5-0). Clatskanie is on an 6 game winning streak after losing to 4A #3 La Grande Tigers. Clatskanie’s only other loss of the season was to 2A #3 Heppner Mustangs.
