HEPPNER – A total of 16 wrestling teams made the trip to Heppner to compete in the Bank of Eastern Oregon Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 5. As the action wrapped up for the day, the Bulldogs of Baker/Powder Valley were crowned team champions. Culver picked up second place in the team standings with Pine Eagle taking third. The host Mustangs of Heppner placed fourth and Riverside rounded out the top five.
Crane senior John Otley upped his season record to an impressive 30-3 with a win by pin over Culver senior Noel Navarroin the 126-pound class.
The Butner clan of Pine Eagle continue to impress. Senior Coy Butner now stands at 21-1 for the season after winning the title at 132 pounds and senior Chase Butner has a record of 20-1 after a championship at 138 pounds.
The hometown fans had something to cheer about as Heppner senior Conor Brosnan grabbed the title at 182 pounds, pinning Union/Cove’s David Creech in the first place match.
At 220 pounds, Adrian senior Toby Clow continues with just two losses for the season compared to 26 wins with a first-place win by pin over Baker/Powder Valley senior Alex Ritter.
The team title by the Bulldogs was led by first place finishes by freshman Aldo Duran (120 pounds), senior Gavin Stone (145 pounds), senior Adrian Allen (195 pounds), and senior Jaden Martin (285 pounds).
