NYSSANyssa senior Asbel Tellez-Jaquez has plans on running her way to a nursing career. The Bulldog senior joined her mother and teammates on Tuesday, Feb. 21 to sign her letter of intent to run track at Treasure Valley Community College in the fall.

“I really wanted to stay close to home for college,” said Tellez-Jaquez. “I also wanted to be in an area where I could help younger athletes get a start in track and field.”

Her choice of TVCC also included her future goal in the nursing career.

“I have always wanted to be in the nursing filed and TVCC is known for that area,” she said.

Tellez-Jaquez joins the Chukars after being a member of the state championship Nyssa team last season. She was a member of the 4-by-400 relay team that secured the points for the state title. Tellez-Jaquez posted a 13.24 second 100-meter time in the state finals, her personal best performance coming into this upcoming track season. She also has a 5-feet, 1-inch high jump in her personal records.

“Winning state was exciting, but my best memory is winning district,” said Tellez-Jaquez.

Tellez-Jaquez was joined at Nyssa High School by numerous teammates, coaches and her mother.

“My mom has always been by biggest supporter,” she said. “I also want to thank all the coaches in my career that have pushed me and my teammates and friends that have always been there for me.”
