NYSSA – The Nyssa girls basketball team opened the season with a victory, downing the Pirate girls of Payette 35-21 on Wednesday, Nov. 29 in the Nyssa gym.

The game started slowly for both teams with Payette finally grabbing the first points of the game at the 5 minute, 12 second mark of the first quarter. The Bulldogs found their first point of the night off a free throw by Chloe Johns with 4:01 left in the first quarter of play. In a low scoring affair, Nyssa led after the first eight minutes of play 8-4.

The Lady Bulldogs started to find their rhythm in the second quarter and led at the half 22-9.

The third quarter mimicked the first quarter with the points coming slowly for both teams and heading into the final eight minutes, the Lady Bulldogs led 28-16. Nyssa closed out the win with a seven-point final quarter.

Brynlee Hartley ended the night with 10 points, the lone Nyssa player in double figure scoring. Clarria Arizmendi added nine points and Chloe Johns put in six points.

Nyssa coach Jeremy Chamberlain may have the team at the free throw line during practices upcoming as Nyssa was 13-for-24 from the line or 54%.
