Citing the impact of COVID-19, the 1A Big Sky Conference has called a halt to all basketball games until Feb. 4.
In a press release from the conference on Friday, Jan.21, the conference announced practices will be left to the individual schools’ decision during the hiatus.
After play resumes on Feb. 4, Big Sky West will only play teams from the West and Big Sky East will only play teams from the East. The conference also announced by Saturday, Feb. 12, three league playoff teams will be determined from the West and East.
Middle School/Junior High school basketball play will also be suspended until Feb. 3
How the move from the Big Sky will affect the state’s rankings is unclear. On Sunday, Jan.23, the South Wasco County boys’ basketball teams stood ranked fifth in the 1A polls. The Cardinal boys of Ione/Arlington were ranked tenth.
On the girls’ side, Trout Lake came in at the eighth spot in the state rankings while Ione/Arlington was ranked tenth.
