WEISER, ID. – Cross country teams representing Union/Cove, Four Rivers and Ontario kicked off the season while Vale raced in their second race in two days as the Weiser Invite took place on Friday, Aug. 30 on the course of Rolling Hills Golf Course in Weiser.
The Bobcat boys finished the day in third place in the team standings to lead the eastern Oregon group. Vale was 10 spots back in 13th followed by Four Rivers in 14th and Ontario in 15th.
For the Vikings, sophomore Duncan Fritts grabbed an individual top 10 finish, running the 5,000 meters in 17 minutes, 40.85 seconds, good enough for seventh. Just outside the top 10 in 11th, Union/Cove senior Nathanael O’Reilly also finished under 18 minutes.
For Ontario, senior Jack Halley was the top Tiger finish while Four Rivers saw sophomore Oliver McDowall in the top 50 for the Falcons.
The Union/Cove girls also returned home with a top five team finish, placing fifth for the day.
The Bobcats were led by junior Taylor Weishar and her time of 21:44.68 over the hilly course. Vale junior Addie Saunders slipped in for a top 20 finish at 19th and Four Rivers was represented by a lone runner, sophomore Maritza Benitez.
