NYSSA – Thursday, Sept. 15 marked the first of two battles this season between the Vale Viking and Nyssa Bulldogs volleyball teams. Taking the court, both teams needed the victory to keep up with league-leading Burns Hilanders. Going a full four sets, Vale emerged as the victor, 3-1.

The Vikings grabbed the first set of the match, 25-19 and dominated the second set, 25-13. Nyssa climbed back into the match with a 25-21 win of their own in the third set. The Vikings closed out the match with a 25-10 performance in the fourth set.

“I was impressed with Nyssa’s defense tonight,” said Vale coach Shannon Steele. “The rallies were very lengthy and it was a lot of fun.”

Vale’s offense was led by Sadie Graviet with 11 kills. Wrenna Cooke added nine kills and both Kinsey Meisinger and Joey Cleaver ended their night with seven kills.

Cleaver also had a night from the service line, going 25-for-26 with three aces. Ali Aldred finished her night 17-for-19 with two aces along with 33 assists and Brogan Payne was 13-for-15 serving.

Elise Seals had 16 digs with Mikayla Cooper added to the win with 12 digs. Cleaver hit the court for 10 digs and Aldred ended with nine digs.
