BAKERBaker Bulldog junior Rasean Jones will be in Beaverton on October 29 as the three-sport athlete was honored for his accomplishments on the track and named the 4A/3A/2A/1A Boys Johnny Carpenter Prep Athlete of the Year.

The award has been presented to outstanding Oregon athletes since 1966 and honors Carpenter, a sports broadcaster from 1937 to 1966 and founder of the Oregon Sports Writers and Sportscasters Association.

In addition to his work on the Baker football and basketball teams, Jones won both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles 4A state track titles. The Bulldog junior was also a first team all-state player as a wide receiver and a part of the 4A state championship Bulldog basketball team.

On a personal note, Jones was the lone eastern Oregon student athlete chosen for the award. The west side of the state may have only seen him run at state, but EOS is lucky enough to see Jones run numerous times throughout the track season. What this award does not recognize is a state champion who congratulates each and every one of his competitors after every race. The award does also not recognize what a joy Rasean is just to speak with each and every time. Humble and always giving credit to others, Rasean is the student athlete every sports journalist wishes to interview.
