NYSSA – The wrestling squads of Baker/Powder Valley and host Nyssa were required to wait until the final matches before determining fourth and fifth place team finishes as two days of action culminated on Saturday, December 14 at the Calhoun Classic.

Baker/Powder Valley edged out Nyssa for fourth with 127 points. Nyssa settled for fifth at their own tournament with 102 points. The Idaho Kuna Kavemen (228 points) returned home with the team title followed by Idaho’s Caldwell (167 points) and New Plymouth (147 points).
Individuals from both Bulldog teams gathered some personal hardware from the tournament.
Baker/Powder Valley’s Johnny Niehaus grabbed first place in the 132-pound classification with a win over Ontario’s Kyle Wulf by pin at the 5 minute, 39 second mark. At 182 pounds, Mahonri Ruston won by technical fall, 16-1 over Emmett’s Layne Dalton for the medal.
Nyssa ended the tournament with two champions. Elijah Cleaver was crowned the top wrestler at 152 pounds after 10-1 decision over Middleton’s Kyle Austin in the weight’s final match. At 195 pounds, Nyssa’s Adam Simpson won by major decision, 11-3, over Emmett’s Jake Johnson to take the first place medal.
