Baker Girls, Pendleton Boys Take XC District Championships (Full results and state qualifiers)

BAKER – The usual crowd of golfers were temporarily replaced by high school runners as the 4A Greater Oregon League cross country championship was held at the Baker City Golf Course on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

The Pendleton boys, led by junior Jack Reynolds second place showing, claimed the league team title. The Buckaroos ended the day with 39 points, just ahead of La Grande’s 45 points. The Tigers grabbed second with just a single point ahead of Baker’s 46 points. Ontario wrapped up fourth place.

La Grande junior Josef Simonis will head to the state cross country meet as a district champion after leading the competitors across the tape with a time of 17 minutes, 31.87 seconds. Simonis and Reynolds were the lone runners under the 18-minute mark.

Running on their home course, the Baker girls took the district team title by ten points over La Grande. The Bulldogs scored 31 points while the Tigers ended with 41 points with both teams qualifying for the state meet. Pendleton finished in the third slot.

La Grande juniors Brooke Perry and Cecilia Villagomez Edvalson continued their season long battle with Perry taking the individual title for the league with a time of 19:11.12. Also running under 20 minutes, Villagomez Edvalson finished in 19:56.89. Baker junior Gwendolyn Rasmussen was the top Bulldog with a time of 21:16.41 in third place.
