VALE – Callie Jo Arriola had one large requisite when she started her search for a college after the upcoming Vale graduation.

“I wanted to go somewhere I could rope year around,” said Arriola.

On Wednesday, May 1, Arriola made it official she is joining a rodeo team where the weather allows December and January practice. Arriola will transfer from a Viking of Vale to a Vaquero of Central Arizona College in Coolidge, Arizona.

The Vaqueros claim 43 national championships in rodeo action and are a member of the Grand Canyon Region. This year, the men sit second in the regional standings while the women are one place back in third.

A header in team roping, Arriola states she will enjoy the warm weather for the next two years before returning back to the Vale area armed with a degree in Agriculture Business.

“Central Arizona College was my number one pick of schools I wanted,” she said.

The signing to start the journey was attended by numerous family members and friends.

“I really want to thank my parents, grandparents, friends, the Torres family and the faculty at Vale High School,” Arriola said.
