OREGON CITY – The Hermiston boys cross country team continues to attend races and dominate the team standings. The most recent example is last Saturday’s, Sept. 17, Oregon City XC Invitational as the Bulldog boys downed a host of other teams.
Led by sophomore Jaysen Rodriguez’s personal best time of 15 minutes, 39.9 seconds and a first-place individual finish, the Bulldogs bested the rest of the field. Hermiston’s 70 points was 12 points better than second place Glencoe at 82 points.
Hermiston actually placed two runners in the top 10 as senior Pedro Pacheco crossed the line in ninth.
The Bulldog girls finished the meet second in the team standings behind Westview. Hermiston was led by a fourth-place finish by junior Jaquelin Garcia Sandoval. Like her male teammate, Garcia Sandoval picked up a personal best time for the race, crossing the line in 19:44.2 Freshman Lillian Field also picked up a top 10 finish, placing ninth.
Easternoregonsports.com is again standing out from other media sources by listing all the runners from eastern Oregon schools in the cross-country competitions. First or 41st, all these runners made it to the finish line. There is only a single runner with the best time, but there are many more stories worth mentioning afterwards.
