ADRIAN – The Cougar football team may not have made the trip, but the Wallowa volleyball squad did make the trip to hit the court for the Adrian homecoming game on Friday, Sept. 23 and the Lopes celebrated after a three-set match.
Set one saw the two teams battle back and forth in the early going. Adrian finally started to pull away midway through the set, leading at the 13-5 points. Cruising from that point, the Lopes went on to a 25-9 victory.
Adrian started the second set with eight straight points to start the set. Wallowa staged a comeback, pulling to within two points at the 10-8 mark, but the Lopes retook the game back and ended with a 25-15 win.
The Lopes started the final set off quickly again, leading by seven points at the 11-4 mark. The match ended with a kill by Lucy Martin, giving Adrian a 25-11 advantage and the match, 3-0.
“It felt great tonight, winning on our homecoming,” said sophomore Addy Martin. “We moved well on defense and our serves were on throughout the whole night. As a team, we played good ball.”
Martin said the filled stands also helped the Antelopes during a difficult week of no football.
“It was fun to see so many people in the stands and cheering us on,” she said.
