PARMA – The track and field teams of 1A Adrian and 3A Vale took to the road to meet a number of Idaho teams, competing at the Parma Ice Breaker on Friday, April 1.
At the end of the day, the Adrian boys placed sixth in the team standings behind the efforts of Martin brothers. Junior Jace Martin recorded first-place finishes in both the 100 and 200-meter races with big brother Conley Martin placing second in the 100 meters.
The two brothers teamed with senior Riley Griffin and senior Gavin Bayes to also cross the line first in the 4-by-100 relay with a time of 45.03 seconds.
Vale also saw a first place finish in the boys as junior Charlie Lamb posted a time of 53.33 seconds in the 400 meters, the top time of the day. Lamb was one second behind Jace Martin in the 200 meters, grabbing a third-place finish. The Vikings posted a tenth-place finish in the team standings.
Participating in his first year of track since middle school, Vale senior Tanner Steele was fourth in the ling jump with a leap of 19 feet, 11 inches.
The Adrian girls finished seventh in the team points against multiple Idaho teams while the Vikings finished the day in 15th.
Making a mark early in her high school career, Adrian freshman Addy Martin crossed the line in third in the 200 meters with a time of 27.69. Third place was also where sophomore Presley Speelmon found herself in the 1600 meters (when in Idaho, teams run Idaho length races). Speelmon’s time was 5:58.69.
Vale’s top finish for the day came in the high jump event as senior Riley Johnson cleared 4 feet, 8 inches, good enough for third place.
