NYSSA – Just days after beating the Nyssa junior varsity softball team, the Adrian softball team returned to the scene of the crime and downed the varsity version of the Bulldogs, 15-7 on Friday, April 1.
The Antelopes jumped out early in this game, putting up six runs in the top of the second inning and adding three runs in both the fourth and sixth innings. Nyssa stayed in the game with a four-run third inning.
“We had to make some substantial line-up changes and I’m proud of how this team responded, despite not coming away on top today,” said Nyssa coach Tracy Cleaver. “Adrian is a well-coached, solid team at the plate and we appreciated them coming back this week to play our varsity.”
For the Bulldogs, Alycia Van Meter picked up a triple and a walk while going two-for-three with the bat. Van Meter and Brooklyn Johns both recorded RBIs for the Dawgs.
Cleaver said she is pleased with her young team as it prepares for upcoming league play.
“Sophomore Alycia Van Meter is hitting her stride both at the plate and in the field, and was solid all around today,” Cleaver said. “Sophomore Taylor Cassity threw her first complete varsity game, and we look forward to what Taylor will become, along with the options we will be able to come up with to get through this season.”
In the victory, Shelby Sheets was three-for-five batting with a double and drove in two runs. Delanie Sheets had a stellar day, going four-for-five with three RBIs.
Adrian 1 6 1 3 0 3 1 — 15 13 4
Nyssa 1 0 4 0 1 1 0 — 7 4 3
