EUGENE – Two teams that have met numerous times this past year in a number of different sports again battled each other as the 1A OSAA Track and Field meet came to a close on Friday, May 20.

The Damascus Christian girls, with 105.5 points went home with the team title, but the battle for second came down to Adrian and Crane, two High Desert teams located 130 miles apart, a short drive for eastern Oregon. The deciding factor was speed as the Antelopes, with 82 points outplaced the Mustangs with 64 points.

Freshman Addy Martin picked the state finals to match older brother Jace with wins in the 100 meter, 200 meters, 4-by-100 relay and 4-by-400 relay. Joining Martin in the relays was Lizzy Nielson, Presley Speelmon, Riley Lucas and Rylee Ready.

Crane’s lone individual championship came the way of Kortney Doman in the high jump event. Cove scored a championship with Autumn Dobbs in the 400 meters and Kally Wilkins returned to Condon with a win in the 3000 meters.

Pine Eagle has a few years to cheering left as Ella Randall is both a state champion and just a freshman in the shot put. The discus state title went to Sherman’s Sophie Hulke.

Although a championship state title did not make its way down Interstate 84 eastbound this year, one-half, or five of the top ten teams, are from this side of the state including two of the top three. The state individual titles from eastern Oregon ranged from spring events to distance to field. In a closer look at the state track and field meet results, an interesting factor is the age of the eastern Oregon competitors. The field from eastern Oregon is young with many on track for a return to Eugene next season.
